His original name was Mohammed Taqi. His takhallus or pen-name was Mir. Mir Taqi Mir, who is also spelled as Meer Taqi Meer, was the leading Urdu poet of the eighteenth century. He finished his education in Delhi and worked as a courtier-poet. He lived much of his life in Delhi. Later he sifted to Lucknow. Distressed to witness the plundering of his beloved Delhi, he gave vent to his feelings through some of his shayari and ghazals. He remained in Lucknow for the remainder of his life.
Mir is highly reputed Urdu poet and his ghazals are its proof. In his time Urdu literature and poetry was at a shaping stage.
